Standing Up for Patients. Demanding Accountability.

At Health Justice BC, advocacy is the core of our mission.

Every day, patients across British Columbia suffer the consequences of misdiagnoses, surgical errors, ignored symptoms, and systemic indifference. Too often, their voices are dismissed, their stories buried, and their harm left unacknowledged. We exist to change that.

What Our Advocacy Looks Like

We advocate on behalf of patients and families who have experienced harm, neglect, or injustice in the healthcare system. Our work includes:

  • Supporting individuals in filing formal complaints or navigating regulatory bodies such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC or the Patient Care Quality Office.
  • Documenting patterns of failure in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities.
  • Publishing findings and reports to expose preventable harm and systemic issues.
  • Engaging with media and government to push for meaningful changes in policy, transparency, and accountability.
  • Building networks of allied professionals, whistleblowers, and organizations who believe in patient rights.

Who We Advocate For

  • Patients whose voices were ignored or dismissed
  • Families who lost loved ones due to medical negligence
  • Seniors and vulnerable people in long-term care
  • Indigenous and marginalized communities who face systemic healthcare bias
  • Healthcare workers who have witnessed or reported wrongdoing

Our Goals

  • Transparency in care, reporting, and complaints
  • Accountability for harmful practitioners and institutions
  • Justice/Compensation for individuals and families affected by medical malpractice
  • Reform in BC’s healthcare oversight processes
  • Empowerment of patients and communities to speak out

How You Can Help

Advocacy is strongest when it’s shared. Here’s how you can be part of the movement:

  • Share your story – Your voice matters. You can choose to remain anonymous.
  • Support our work – Whether through volunteering, donations, or outreach, your support fuels our efforts.
  • Spread the word – Talk to your community, your MLA, and your networks. Change starts with awareness.
